Client story

South West News Service Limited (SWNS) is a leading news content provider, delivering words, pictures and videos to the world’s media 24 hours a day.
We worked with SWNS using our Data Discovery & Design approach to create a data-driven strategy.

The vision

To understand the art of the possible, as well as options, pros/cons, costs, timelines and recommendations for how SWNS can become a future-proofed, scalable, data-driven organisation.

The problem

SWNS’s data is complex with 10 priority data sources, 46 software tools, 5 brands & UK/US/global operations – plus SWNS is growing fast so the data challenge is getting bigger and bigger.

The objectives

To understand SWNS’s business requirements, data sources and current data outputs…to design the right technology, reporting and resource solutions in a way that is robust, secure & scalable.

Data sources

We reviewed a number of different data sources for this project which included:
  • ENTERPRISE DATA – clients, finance, sales, marketing, people & more
  • NEWS DATA – news content, videos, pictures, words & more
We delivered the Data Discovery & Design Report in November 2022

We used our Data³ Discovery Process to capture all business requirements and reviewed all relevant data, report samples and business information covering UK/US/global regions, 46 software tools, 10 priority data sources & multiple business reports

We used our Data³ Design Process to create a Data Strategy covering the art of the possible for technology, analytics and reporting, tool selection recommendations, a fully-costed implementation plan

SWNS are using the Data Discovery & Design Report to inform their technology strategy…and we’re helping them to build their data warehouse and reporting technology stack

“Working with the Data³ team has allowed us to use the vast amounts of data we create to give improved insight and business focus. My team has been energised by working with Data³ on the project. The Data³ team are professional and easy to work with and use a commonsense approach to create value.”
